Translation and video editing using subtitling or voice-over systems
The challenge
For many years now we have been the trusted partners of a leading global provider specialising in heating, ventilation and air-conditioning, as well as related services and professional technical support.
In recent years, in addition to providing specialised technical translation services, we have been involved in translating and video editing all of their company videos using subtitling and voice-over systems.
Our client uses videos for sharing important internal communications with its branches around the world, as well as online and in communications with customers.
The video script is sometimes transcribed, then translated and edited using subtitles or voice overs, as required.
Subtitling is a widespread audio-visual translation (AVT) method. It is often chosen by companies for the translation of their video presentations, internal communications or video tutorials (especially for technical departments), as it reduces on-site training times.
Transparent translations – those appearing simultaneously alongside the audio in the original language – should be provided by professionals with experience and expertise in the relevant sector. Transforming a verbal message into a written one is a considerable responsibility, as the time it takes to listen to it or to read it is not the same. The translated text needs to be “in sync”, i.e. occupy an exact amount of time, while maintaining the original meaning and any linguistic, social or cultural nuances.
Our subtitling work is twofold: we either create files that are compatible with any type of film and with any video platform or, as in the case of this client, we edit the text ourselves.
Voice-over, on the other hand, is a technique that involves adapting sentences to the target language and formulating them so that they start one or two seconds after and finish one or two seconds before those in the original language, which are generally heard at a lower volume beneath the voice-over.
The technical and service aspects that need to be taken into account when planning and carrying out digital services are varied and complex.
Our solution
A dedicated Project Manager selects and appoints translators and speakers specialising in a specific sector, as well as a technical partner for the various services required.
As ever, the experience, linguistic skills, technical knowledge and specialisations of the people involved ensure we offer effective digital products of a high linguistic and technical level.
The result
Our client has expressed its satisfaction with the service we have been providing, which fully responds to its needs and expectations.
